NJHC Car Treks
​

Our Spring and Fall Car Treks invite the public to discover the hidden history, natural wonders, and scenic backroads of the Highlands. Each Car Trek provides an expertly crafted route (50 – 70 miles in length) and a tour packet that provides interpretive details about select points of interest along the route. The NJHC staffdelivers a brief presentation about the Highlands at a pre-determination location such as a park, reservoir, or preserve to educate our "trekkers" about the history of the Highlands and some of the current conservation issues we are working to
address. After the trek, participants are invited to lunch with NJHC staff and fellow trekkers at an eatery near the end of the route.

​​Past themes have included bridges, geology, reservoirs, and industrial archaeology. The theme of the Fall 2023 Car Trek on Sunday, October 29 is Highlands Harvest:
Discovering our Region’s Bounty and will include optional stops at several familyowned businesses featuring locally produced foods and beverages.
